Artist's Comments

Self-Portrait. One day, while at Drill Team practice, I was sitting in this exact position. Someone on my Color Guard snapped a picture of me. When I saw it later, I was inspired to create this War-Torn painting of myself. It took about a month and half to complete, using acrylics. The roughness of the paint, unlike my other paintings is completely on purpose; it gives a different feel to the painting, as if it is incomplete. The meaning of the painting differs from viewer to viewer.

Perhaps, it symbolizes the effect of war on high school students. Perhaps it the mourning of a dead lover from a war. Perhaps the blood is only mental, symbolizing the war in school (IE: bullying), because of the school uniform. It's true meaning will be kept a secret, that only I know.

Thank you for this art.
I tried to surrender too.
But no prisoners were made.
